Construction begins on Boys & Girls Club expansion

By next spring, the Ballard Boys and Girls Club will be about 5,000 square feet larger than it currently is.

Construction started earlier this month on the seven-month expansion project. “Mostly demolition with the footings being excavated for the new parking lot entrance and the retaining walls on the south side of the property,” Mark Hendricks, the executive director of the club tells us, “This week the main entrance should come down to make room for the new expansion to get started.”

A power pole was relocated to make room for the new parking lot entrance.

The community is stepping up to donate to the expansion project, Hendricks says, including members of the club. “Our high school leadership group Keystone has raised over $10,000 for the project and three of our younger members Joey, Calvin and Asha have all donated their birthday money to the project totaling over $1,000.” Although fundraising has been very successful, “we have not reached our goal of being able to cover all of the expenses for furnishings in the rooms,” Hendricks says.

If you have any questions about the project or you would like to make a donation please contact Mark Hendricks. Mark can be reached at the Ballard Boys and Girls Club (206) 436-1878.
