It’s been a sad week in Ballard. The King County Medical Examiner has confirmed that the body found in the water last Friday is that of Lia Hawkins.
Hawkins was last seen on the MV Sahara Thursday morning around 11 a.m. The following day, divers found a her body under a pier near the vessel, which was moored at a shipyard on Shilshole Ave NW. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office tells ThreeSheetsNW.com that Hawkins died of a skull fracture and drowning after falling from an elevated surface into the water.
Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson tells ThreeSheetsNW that there was no indication of foul play. “Unfortunately … it just looks like it was a tragic accident,” he said.
Another tragic accident in Ballard. My condolences to the family and friends of this young woman.
I don’t understand how anyone who has worked on a boat like this could come to the conclusion that it was an accident.
This is very sad…
I think this is so very sad and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.
