Be prepared for a Pineapple Express

A “Pineapple Express” is headed our way, which means wet weather.

University of Washington Meteorologist Cliff Mass says that if you want to get anything done outdoors over the weekend do it before 3 p.m. Saturday. “At this point, this event is no record-breaker, but it will bring serious rain and much warmer temperatures,” Mass writes on his weather blog. “Rain will fall on all that nice fresh snow in the mountains, SERIOUSLY contributing to a significant avalanche threat later in the weekend. Backcountry travel should be avoided then.”

A MyBallard reader sent an email to remind people to help prevent urban flooding. “Walking around Ballard, I still see a lot of leaves in the streets, and a lot of drains blocked as a result; the puddles that form around these blocked drains make it dangerous for everyone on the roads (and on the sidewalks).”

  1. Perhaps if people had to license trees they’d be more enthused to clean up leaves from THEIR trees. Today trees seem to have “rights”. so this makes sense to me. As in ownership and the taking of it. I am personally tired of picking up my lazy neighbors stuff over and over again. Why am I their yard boy? Forget Rudy. Get things yourselves. You do care, right? I’m gonna play Feelings on the accordian.

  2. that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
license trees? yeah, let’s tax something that’s a public benefit for everyone, save a few whiners who actually have to take a bit of action for these large infrequent rain storms.

maybe people should also have a license for stupidity

  3. check your gutters too folks. it wouldv’e been better if i had done so yesterday (duh) – big puddle at the corner of my house. luckily i don’t have a basement. up on a ladder first thing in the morning with a hand in some cold a#@ water was a good learning tool though.

  4. Point out to your neighbors that Seattle Ordinance (law) says that the tree owner is responsible for the leaves, no matter which side of the fence or street they fall . . . . Call the city and report them as a nuisance.

  5. Hey you, I spose licensing studded tires would also be “stupid”, right pal? Like the few using ’em don’t do damage to our roads. Seems the dominant liberal thinking is to control everything, so why not take ownership of things, with pride of course, and not make enforcing existing laws an issue? Why do I want YOUR tree in MY yard? I have no trees and common sense has been eliminated long ago.

  6. the problem is all you scandanavians ruined ballard by cutting down all the trees early in the 20th century.

    is that really common sense?
