Staff changes at Loyal Heights Community Center

The 2011 calendar at the Ballard-area community centers look sparse compared with the 2010 calendar. Budget cuts are forcing changes to classes and staff at the centers.

Melissa Valenzuela, the current recreation coordinator for the Loyal Heights Community Center says that only two positions will be affected at Loyal Heights. The current custodian will be transferred to the Magnuson Community Center and Valenzuela will be “bumped” down to Assistant Coordinator at Magnolia Community Center. Their last day will be this Friday, December 17th. “It has been a great opportunity to work with and to lead the team at Loyal Heights,” Valenzuela writes in an email. “I’m sure our paths will cross again.”

The new coordinator at Loyal Heights will be Dena Schuler and the new custodian will be Mark Blankston.

On Sunday night, Ballard Community Center held a meeting to discuss their 2011 schedule. The “Save Ballard’s Community Centers” attended the meeting and posted the winter schedule on their Facebook page.
