‘The Oracle of Ballard’ passes away

The country’s oldest working real-estate agent, George W Johnson (1912-2011), passed away on Thursday from complications of pulmonary fibrosis.

98 year-old Johnson owned Ballard’s George W Johnson Realtors and was working six hour days until about six weeks ago.

In 2007, Jean Enersen of King5 News called Johnson “The Oracle of Ballard” on the show Up Front. A moniker he proudly embraced to his final days, the obit states (.pdf).

A memorial service honoring George’s life will be held at Seattle First Free Methodist Church at 1 PM Sunday March 20, 2011. A reception will follow at the church. Memorial donations may be made to First Free Methodist Church, Seattle, the Clarice A Johnson Memorial Fund Seattle Pacific University, Operation Night Watch Seattle, Warm Beach Retirement Health Care Center, Stanwood, Wa. or New Horizons Ministries, Seattle, Wa.
