MyBallard profiled by Seattle Channel

I have the best job in the world. Each and everyday I get to meet wonderful people in our community, spread the word about local events and relay information to Ballardites that they might not get anywhere else. Many have made friends in the MyBallard forum and come to virtually know users and contributors.

The Seattle Channel recently followed me through my day and talked with readers and forum members. The piece will air on City Stream tonight at 7 p.m., channel 21, but it just posted online here:

MyBallard.com is truly community-powered, our thanks to all of you for your support!

  1.  If it’s a “hobby”, I’m not sure I would want someone calling me at 2 in the morning to report on fire/police activity.  But maybe that’s what their working agreement has come to.  Other than that, it’s an informative piece.

  2. Mike – since they’ve had their second child I’m a bit more careful about when I call them. Now I usually just text them at 2am. ;-)

That was fun to watch. You all looked great!!

  4. Really interesting to “see” behind the curtain  a bit. I liked Cory’s point about the news not being one dimensional.  That’s the direction media is moving, I believe. Every voice now has an audience.

Without asking for you to release your financials, can you tell us what it costs, ballpark, to run a site like my ballard and what sort of revenue you get from advertising? Basically, how viable is it for an individual without a large amount of capital?

You guys are on to something big I think.
