Whitman ‘buskers’ will be out on Sunday

Students from Whitman Middle School will be “buskers” this Sunday afternoon at Marvin’s Garden (22nd Ave. NW and Ballard Ave. NW) from noon to 2 p.m. to raise money for the music program.

Whitman Middle School students busking last year.

Band and choir director Joel Orsen tells us that this is the perfect way for students to share their music. “It’s a quick way to show people what we do without making them buy tickets or set an evening aside,” he says. “We’ll have performances from our Jazz Band, Pep Band, and lots of student buskers working in pairs and solos. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and listen and maybe put a buck or two in our guitar case.”

The busking is a fundraiser for the Whitman Middle School music program. Last year the students made nearly $800, which went to the family of a former student.
