Third annual Ballard Film Fest on Saturday

See the works of Ballard videographers and producers Saturday night at the Third annual Ballard Film Fest. There will be family-friendly shorts by local students and alumni and popcorn and lemonade.

Matt Lawrence, the Video Production teacher at Ballard High School sent us the following information:

Three short works by Justin Amorratanasuchad from his years in the Ballard High School Video Production Program will be screened. Amorratanasuchad died earlier this year in Boston while working on a film project for Emerson College, .

Between them, these shorts took top prizes at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, the Westport Youth Film Festival, the Youth People’s Film & Video Festival, and the Northwest High School Film Festival as well as a High School Television Award of Excellence presented at the Northwest Regional Emmy Awards.

These productions have won 15 awards and honors from various film festivals and professional organizations, including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Seattle International Film Festival’s FutureWave, the Westport Youth Film Festival, the Northwest High School Film Festival, and the Children’s Film Festival (Seattle).

Some of the producers have recently graduated from Ballard High School and are now attending such acclaimed schools of film and television as Emerson College (Emily Deering, ’10), the University of Southern California (Rikke Heinecke, ’11), Columbia College of the Arts (Sydney Jarol, ’11), and New York University (Dylan Miller, ’11).

Other participants are from Adams Elementary ,Reel Grrls, The Center School and Whitman Middle School.

The Ballard Film Fest is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Sunset Hill Community Association (3003 NW 66th St) Admission: $5 donation at the door.
