The Ballard High School football team travelled to Redmond Friday night for their third road game in a row. And, just like the first two, they came up just short for the victory. The game was back and forth with the Beavers scoring first on a 26 yard pass from senior Johnny Verduin to senior Dominique Smith. Senior Andrew Ingham hit the PAT for a Beaver 7-0 lead. Redmond hit a 45-yard field goal early in the second quarter and then scored a touchdown at the end of the first half to take a 10-7 halftime lead. Dominique Smith scored on a 11-yard run in the third quarter followed by Johnny Verduin connecting with junior John DeGarmo for the 2-point conversion. Redmond followed with 10 unanswered points including a 52-yard field goal (yes, that isn’t a typo) and another touchdown. Ballard had a couple of chances at the end to punch ahead for the win, but came up short.
Dominique Smith led the Beavers with two interceptions, 80 yards rushing, 62 yards receiving, 7 tackles and two touchdowns. Seniors Justin Simon and Nate Rauda added 9 tackles each for the Beavers. The Beavers (0-3) have their home opener hosting Garfield (1-2) Friday night at 7:45 at Memorial Stadium.
