$5,000 grants available for Crown Hill/Greenwood community nonprofits

Thanks to Waste Management’s Think Green Recycling Challenge, Crown Hill and Greenwood community groups have the opportunity to get $5,000 in grant money. The challenge, which was hosted by Waste Management last year, awarded a total of $40,000 to the area that reduced the most waste. Now, that money is being divided up into eight separate grants of $5,000.

The grants will be awarded to groups that are already working in the community, and the selection committee will be made up of representatives from each of the applying organizations. The guidelines are the following:

  • Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or be a community group with a current (pre-existing) fiscal sponsor
  • Serve all or part of the Crown Hill/Greenwood (Wednesday North) neighborhood. (See attached map)
  • Be a program or project already in progress or at least “shovel ready”
  • Be able to spend the $5,000 grant by July 1, 2014
  • Participate in the selection committee and attend two meetings (Sept 26 and Oct 10)

The deadline to apply is Sept. 16., and applications are available online. The selection committee meetings are at the Phinney Center on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. for application presentations and Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. for the final vote. For additional information, contact Ann Bowden at ann@phinneycenter.org.
