Glee star to help raise money for Ballard High School next week

Ballard High School will soon host a benefit concert with a star from the TV series Glee, Derik Nelson. The concert is part of the Take Chances Tour 2013, the proceeds from which will go to the BHS drama department. The event is on Oct. 1, and Nelson will perform a pop/rock concert with a full band for 90 minutes with no intermission at the Earl Kelly Performing Arts Center at BHS. Nelson will also be at the Northgate Mall Barnes and Noble on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon to 2 p.m. to meet fans and sign CDs.

“My brother, sister, and I grew up in public school,” Nelson explained in a press release. “We are passionate about the arts, music, and about giving back and we see the budget cuts really affecting these schools. We wanted an out-of-the-box, creative, risk-free way for schools to fundraise, so we’ve worked together over the last two years to develop an idea that’s finally a reality.”

Tickets range from $15 to $30, and are available here.
