Skateboarder run over after smashing car window and yelling racial slurs at driver

A skateboarder in north Ballard was sent to the hospital with serious injuries following an altercation with a minivan driver on Sunday. The skateboarder reportedly blocked the path of the minivan where it was stopped at the corner of 15th Ave NW and NW 80th St. and started yelling racial slurs at the driver. The man then smashed the minivan’s car hood and shattered the windshield with his skateboard.

During the encounter, the mini-van drove forward and ran over the pedestrian/skateboarder.  The Pedestrian/skateboarder became trapped under the mini-van.  Bystanders picked up the rear of the mini-van and pulled the pedestrian/skateboarder to safety.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and medics transported the pedestrian to Harbor Medical Center with serious injuries.  The adult male driver of the mini-van was not injured.  There were no passengers in the mini-van at the time of the incident.

The mini-van was secured for further investigation from the TCIS.  A DRE Officer interviewed the driver of the minivan and observed no indications of impairment.

The driver was released at the scene pending further investigation.
