5th annual Polar Bear Plunge set for New Year’s Day at Golden Gardens

2012_plunge2On New Year’s Day a group of locals will be once again braving the icy Puget Sound waters to take part in the 5th annual Polar Bear Plunge. The event starts at 11 a.m. at Golden Gardens (8498 Seaview Pl NW) and all are welcome to take a dip in the water to welcome in 2014.

The event was started by local resident Rick Sandvig after he saw the event become successful in Vancouver, Canada.

In previous years, the event has seen over 200 polar bears keen to welcome in the new year by jumping into the Sound.

Polar bears are asked to look for the Lock and Keel banner to meet up with fellow plungers. Organizers remind participants to bring a towel and that costumes are also encouraged.

“We want you to be there! Your neighbors want you there,” says Sandvig.
