As the weather is (hopefully) getting warmer, we thought it was high time to feature the beaches around Ballard back in the day. The Ballardites of yesteryear clearly loved a visit to the beach as much as we do today.
Check out the black and white photo below that was taken on June 11, 1912. The photo shows Adams students from Miss Anderson and Miss Blought’s class standing on Ballard Beach.
The black and white photo below, taken in 1923, shows James D. McGinley and another boy playing by the edge of the water at Golden Gardens.
The photo below, taken in 1900, shows eleven women wading in the water at Golden Gardens in their bathing suits.
The below photo is an original sepia photo of a shanty town on Ballard Beach back in 1895. On the back of the photo it says “taken by V.J.”
The black and white photo below shows seven men at North Beach in 1909 wearing the traditional men’s swimming gear of the day.
