A number of fantastic student writers from our neighborhood have had their work featured in the 2014 Seattle Arts & Lectures’ Writers in the Schools Anthology. To celebrate the release of the anthology a reading will be held this evening (Tuesday, September 23) in the Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall at 7 p.m.
The Writers in the Schools Program (WITS) places professional local writers in public schools across the city to develop writing skills and spark inspiration. The WITS program has been operating in Seattle since 1994 helping young writers to discover their unique voices.
This year’s anthology includes writing by Whittier Elementary School students Lydia Blair, Yura Campbell, Amelia Lewis, Catharine McCarty, Andy Oram, Linh Vo and Audrey J. Williams; and Ballard High School students Emma Eachus, Rachel Halmrast, Hannah Kitchens, Aiden Sheckler, and Khloe Wheeler. A number of these students will be among the featured readers tonight.
The young authors will sign copies of the anthology at the event and a reception will follow, with sweets donated by Cupcake Royale.
Congratulations to all of the students and writers involved! Click here to learn more about this year’s anthology and the WITS program.
