With the 87th annual Blessing of the Fleet last weekend at Fishermen’s Terminal, we thought it was time to take a look back at fishing and fishing vessels in the neighborhood.
The photo below, taken in 1912, features the commercial fishing boat “Decorah” that belonged to Ballard resident Ove Rommen.
The photo below, taken in 1915, shows another commercial fishing boat “Swift” moored in Ballard. It was owned by Norwegian immigrant Matt Strande.
The photo below, taken in 1918, shows fishermen working on the docks at Fishermen’s Terminal.
The photo below, taken in 1950 , features Ballard fisherman Peter Eide.
