After a fire shut it down last year, Caffè Fiorè in Sunset Hill is nearly ready to reopen.
Owner Deming Maclise is taking an active role in the reopening, from updating the decor to upgrading services at the cafe. “It needed some love,” he told My Ballard, saying he’s adding some fixtures sourced in Amsterdam and some custom-made metal works.
Arsonists were to blame for the blaze, which also shut down Cocina Esperanza next door. Owner Marcos had to sell his business after it proved to be too expensive to reopen. Maclise has purchased the space and plans to open a restaurant called Lucky Santo — more to come on that soon.
Maclise says he hopes for an early December opening.
Will there be a needle collection box in the gender neutral bathroom?
Welcome back you guys!!
I mourn the loss of the lovely Cocina Esperanza. It was the perfect neighborhood restaurant and it is missed.
Can’t wait. Missed in the neighborhood.
