A man has died after being hit by an SUV late last night on 15th Ave W in Interbay.
Just after 11pm Wednesday night, police were called to the 2200 block of 15th Ave W by the 23-year-old driver of the SUV. The victim had reportedly stepped into the roadway and was struck by the SUV. By the time police and medics arrived, the victim had died from injuries suffered in the collision.
According to SPD, a Seattle Police drug recognition expert interviewed the driver and found no signs of impairment. He was interviewed and released from the scene pending further investigation.
SPD says the incident remains an active investigation, “and details may change as the case progresses.”
What a tragedy. My heart goes out to the deceased family, and also to poor driver.
It would be especially tragic if the deceased was someone from Interbay Place at 2201 15th Ave W, a supportive housing facility for homeless people suffering from mental illness, substance abuse disorders, etc. I’ve had folks from that facility walk out in front of my car before, too. I’ve also seen them standing in the road, wheeling carts down the turn lane, etc. They have a tough life. But that poor driver…he’s got to live with this now through no fault of his own it looks like.
Curious if the man who was hit was a nonvoting nontaxpaying Mike O’Brien constituent.
