Samara bistro now open in Sunset Hill

The new bistro on Sunset Hill, Samara (6414 32nd Ave NW), is now open.

Samara’s specialty is wood-fueled cooking — with a brick oven and hearth, owner and chef Eric Anderson has created a space he says is in the tradition of Parisian neighborhood bistros.

Some of their menu items include ash-baked sunchokes with brown butter, almonds and chives; roasted carrots with toasted hazelnut milk, orange zest, and chervil; smokey kabocha squash with crème fraîche, olive oil, pomegranate, and mint; and roasted black cod with red beets and pink lady apples.

Many of their ingredients come from local farms and producers, such as Steel Wheel Farm from Fall City, and The Sheepish Pig hog farm in Kingston. The duck on the menu comes from California: fourth-generation duck farmers Sonoma County Poultry.

“I’m happy to be working with people who are as excited about their jobs as I am about mine, the artists and craftspeople, the farmers, all putting their efforts into something useful, beautiful and delicious,” Anderson said.

The restaurant is open for dinner service Wednesday to Sunday, 5 to 10pm.

        1. Sunset Hill, Loyal Heights, Whitier Heights, West Woodland are all part of Ballard.
The boundaries are Shilshole, 85th, 3rd ave and the ship canal…

          1. Try telling that to the Crown Hill crowd trying to use our high school.

          2. I’m not here to talk about Ballard High School. I’m just telling you where the boundaries of Ballard technically are.

          3. There is no requirement that BHS attendance boundaries conform to what areas are considered Ballard.

Doesn’t magnolia send their kids to BHS?

          4. Don’t get me started on the kids from Magnolia that have horned there way into BHS.

          5. MyBallard says these are the neighborhoods that make up Ballard.
            Sunset Hill
            Loyal Heights
            Whittier Heights
West Woodland. It stretches east to 3rd Ave. into an area that’s sometimes called “Frelard.”
            Crown Hill
North Beach/Blue Ridge – Just to the north of Sunset Hill. It includes Olympic Manor, a hilly neighborhood with epic holiday lights.

        2. take a look at the last edit times. or go find a map of neighborhoods in seattle. crown hill is part of ballard. not sure why you’re so against it lol.

          1. Crown Hill is definitely not Ballard, everyone knows the cutoff is 85th.

          2. The Crown Hill Neighborhood Association believes a lot of things that aren’t true (vaccinations are harmful and effects of water fluoridation).

          3. as defined by Seattle, Crown Hill is north of Ballard but I have always considered crown hill to start more around 80th rather than 85th as the City defines. Either way, who cares? Most people north of 85th have been going to Ballard High forever.

          4. This attitude of “who cares” has lead to the current conditions of Ballard and MOB rule.

          5. OMG – so the attitude over “who cares” about whether Sunset Hill is technically part of Ballard or not is leading to MOB (your caps) rule???? Next up, an angry discussion over whether the west side of 24th is still in Ballard or not….

      1. Tell me more stories of what is was like during the annexation of Ballard.

You know there wouldn’t be so many “transplants” if Seattle at a native population that wasn’t super lazy and stupid. Amazon looked around and realized if they were going to start a successful company they wouldn’t be able to use the people here, they’d need to ship them in.

Looking at the results of the city now, I’d say they were right.

      2. elenchos2 is just a sockpuppet troll that took the name of a blog commentor that used to put the blog trolls in their place. The blog trolls were delusionally obsessed with them. Whenever the real elenchos would respond, it would send the blog trolls into quite the tizzy. I was a sight to see!

The best you can do is just troll them back, because they are immune to factual responses.

    1. It’s really not that difficult to understand. Sunset Hill extends from the western edge of Ballard to north of Ballard. Technically the city of Ballard boundary to the north was 85th.

  1. Well thank you very much! But I think I’ll just mosey on down the hill to Totem/Red Mill and have a burger and fries.

          1. elenchos2,
My last comment was directed at waiting for S, not you.
