Baker’s craft cocktail bar now open in Sunset Hill

The latest change in the transformation of Sunset Hill has been the addition of craft cocktail bar Baker’s, which just opened in the former Walter’s location at 6408 32nd Ave NW.

Baker’s, named in honor of the historic cocktail connoisseur Charles H. Baker, is first and foremost a cocktail bar, but with the accompaniment of small plates created by Matt Janke of Matt’s in the Market. Small-batch wine from Northwest producers and local beer will also be on offer.

Owner Brian Claudio Smith has made some changes to the space, which he told My Ballard would create a feel of “timeless elegance”. A marble bar top, wood shelving, candlelight, and a large Fernet Branca tapestry from the 1930s set the tone, Smith said.

“It’s warm and inviting, with a classic feel.”

The space seats 20 around the bar and exposed kitchen — in early summer they’ll open up a hidden, backyard garden patio with another 30 seats.

Baker’s is open seven nights a week, from 4pm to midnight.

  1. Yay! Can’t wait to try it. Craft drinks are my downfall. And yes, before you chime in, I am fine paying 12 dollars for one, and I’m OK if they allow dogs.

  2. I went yesterday. It’s such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I live 3 blocks away and thought the area needed a nice bar. The drinks and food are great and the staff is super friendly.

    1. Paintking – you are 17 years old? You have such a long way to go. Given your posts on this site then I doubt that you will learn much from this 72 year old. Good luck dude. You are in for a real rough ride in life. Just pray that you don’t live beyond 40.
And FWIW, I was an ignorant stupid 17 year old once.
