The last open house to discuss options for the redevelopment of the large National Guard Armory site in Interbay is tonight (July 30th).
The state-owned site, located just behind the Whole Foods on 15th Ave W in Interbay, is being considered for redevelopment as it’s no longer an ideal location for the National Guard. The open house will be held by the Washington Department of Commerce Interbay Public Development Advisory Committee at the Ballard VFW Hall (2812 NW Market St) at 6pm.
The advisory committee is tasked with studying possible reuses for the National Guard Interbay site, assuming the Guard will be able to relocate to a new site. The Interbay site was built in 1974, and the facility has been deemed insufficient. According to the Department of Commerce, it doesn’t meet current National Guard Readiness Center requirements for mission support. Over 600 personnel are based at the site, which they say isn’t ideal for commuting or deployment of large military equipment in and out of the city.
This is the third and final open house held by Commerce, but there will be a Committee Meeting on Tuesday, August 27th at the Armory building at 9am. The public are invited to that meeting, during which they can present ideas for the future uses of the site to the committee.
