Traffic backups in central Ballard due to collision at 14th and Market

A traffic accident at the intersection of 14th Ave NW and NW Market St is causing some backups this afternoon.

Lauri Miller posted the below photo of the aftermath in the My Ballard Group, saying she saw one person in the back of an ambulance.

Eastbound Market St and northbound 14th Ave were both closed due to the accident. There are reports that it’s back open, but expect some delays as traffic clears.

We have a call out to Seattle Fire to learn more about the accident.

  1. Not good, and again I wonder how much longer until the signals at this busy intersection such as this 1 are brought into this millennium? Because they are from the 50’s-60’s, hardly progressive. With all the $$ this city is rolling is, where’s some for a turn lane and modern signal? Sad that the people footing the bills aren’t given a biscuit now and then. Perhaps the city has other ideas about our autos and simply doesn’t plan on modernizing any intersections?

      1. What are YOU smoking? I’m talking about “dedicated turn signals/lane. How much more simple can it be or I make it. “Functioning modern traffic lights” from the 60’s. Take a look at 80th + 3rd NW and 80th + 8th NW. There you will see 2 more well used intersections without these as well. Dangerous and outdated is what I’m saying.

        1. See, someone would have to pay for it, which you folks on the right never, ever want to do. So you’ll bitch and complain about lack of modernity, yet refuse to pay for same upgrades, because “Gubmint iz STEALING!!” has you too hamstrung to actually enact any progress.

        2. I’m talking about “dedicated turn signals/lane.

Dude, 14th has dedicated turn lanes. There’s no dedicated turn signals because SDOT doesn’t want that intersection to become a heavy turn intersection. 14th already functions as a bypass to 15th, something which is was not designed to be and should not be.

How much more simple can it be or I make it.

I guess we just struggle to comprehend your simple-minded rants.

          1. Exactly right. I’m trying to stop fading the trolls like Paintking and Elenchos and instead just mock them.

    1. Hah, that’s funny. Proposing signal moderation to a 20th century transportation “solution”, the automobile. The truly modern solution is reliable and dependable mass transit for everyone.
