Free bus service tonight for New Year’s Eve

As usual, Metro bus rides will be free tonight for New Year’s Eve transportation.

All across King County, Metro will offer free rides from 7pm to 4am tonight. The free rides are, in part, sponsored by the Seattle Center, which has its annual fireworks event that draws thousands.

Here’s a list of the services offering free rides:

  • Metro buses
  • Via to Transit Southeast Seattle (extended service until 2am, Jan. 1)
  • DART
  • Seattle Streetcar (service extended to 1am on South Lake Union; First Hill offers regular service until 1am)
  • Community Van
  • Community Ride
  • Access paratransit

Metro says they will add more frequent service to its night routes, focusing on helping people travel near Seattle Center following the fireworks at midnight.

Note that Seattle Monorail, Sound Transit light rail, and Sound Transit Express buses will still require fares tonight.

As a reminder, New Year’s Day is a holiday, which means reduced service across King County.
