The City is cleaning up several blocks in Ballard today as part of the RV remediation program.
The cleanup, started as a Seattle Public Utilities pilot program in 2018, cleans trash, spills, or waste drainage in public rights-of-way, specifically in areas where there’s a high quantity of RV parking. SPU hires a contractor to do the waste removal, which also includes possible removal of hazardous waste, toxic chemicals and sharps.
SPU’s Sabrina Register tells My Ballard that the department identifies cleanup sites each month based on health, safety, and occupancy ratings.
Today’s cleaning is happening in the blocks around NW 48th and 49th, between 8th and 9th Avenues NW. There are no-parking signs up to alert nearby residents and businesses, which will remain posted until 72 hours after the cleanup.
