RV remediation happening today in Ballard

The City is cleaning up several blocks in Ballard today as part of the RV remediation program.

The cleanup, started as a Seattle Public Utilities pilot program in 2018, cleans trash, spills, or waste drainage in public rights-of-way, specifically in areas where there’s a high quantity of RV parking. SPU hires a contractor to do the waste removal, which also includes possible removal of hazardous waste, toxic chemicals and sharps.

SPU’s Sabrina Register tells My Ballard that the department identifies cleanup sites each month based on health, safety, and occupancy ratings.

Today’s cleaning is happening in the blocks around NW 48th and 49th, between 8th and 9th Avenues NW. There are no-parking signs up to alert nearby residents and businesses, which will remain posted until 72 hours after the cleanup.

  1. I really want to live in a city where those people can easily find their way to housing and the services they need. I also want to live in a city without the garbage, depravity and degradation that we see around us. I’m willing to pay for that. But I’m not willing to pay it to the current city council. Puts me in a tough place. I want to see radically more speed to solution, but I want the revenue brilliantly targeted and managed. It’s a pickle.

    1. its not actually “a pickle”. There is no reason to fret. Its a done deal. Seattle’s politicians are NOT going to fix this, period. “but I want the revenue brilliantly targeted and managed. It’s a pickle.”

Start researching cities, smaller than seattle with Republicans in charge. Liberals have been i charge for the last 1/2 decade, the math is pretty easy.

  2. Hey, I’d just like it if the RV guy would stop poo poo and pee pee outside my office. That’s how low the bar is.
Add to it that most of these social justice idiots are environment nuts who apparently don’t care how much sewage and heroin waste end up in Puget Sound. Nice belief system idiots. Makes perfect sense. To no one with a brain.

    1. have you spoken to them about this? no, not joking. looking to this city to help you is foolish, they have shown they don’t care. Here is a pretend conversation.
” If this behavior continues, i will phone 911 and report “i think” drugs are being sold from your RV, i might think one of you is armed and report this as well. Do you want to go there or move”

my guess is they will move. I have done this with Ballard’s homeless at my bus stop, they go somewhere else. always being prepared and “ready” for an unlikely altercation. they don’t want to see the cops, period. what are your other choices???

  3. Tax funded whack-a-mole. Is this addressing all the heroin screaming up I-5? Does this change the lame prosecutor; Satterberg ? Does this replace most of the city council? We found dirty used needles in our front yard this week. Seems totally becoming SF north is THE plan here. This is what happens when 1 party controls everything; ZERO pushback. Zero alternative ideas. Little true diversity or inclusion of differing opinions. Just the same old crap spoon fed to us.

    1. Bitch, bitch, bitch. Same old rant from the same angry old man. Lots of vitriol and hate but no actual suggestions or solutions.

Please move, if you hate Ballard so badly. I’ll help you pack. Either way, seek help!

  4. If we are going to allow these RVs and tents we need to put trash cans or dumpsters near these areas so these people have someplace to get rid of their trash ! It would be cheaper to empty these trash cans than send people to clean up the area off and on ! Toilets would be more sanitary too rather than them going potty all over the place too ! No I don’t like RVs and tents all over the place either ! But we live here and must keep our ballard as safe and sanitary as possibly !

    1. Hey genius… if we put public dumpsters out, why I or anyone else pay the $35 to take a load to the transfer station instead of just dump my stuff at the bum dumpster? More free stuff isn’t the answer.

      1. there are fewer people with no respect for others then there are people like you who take advantage. some people have ethics, i know that is strange to you.

    2. Didn’t we spend like a million dollars to install a Portland Loo in the commons? How well is that working out for the Junkie Classes?

      1. I was talking to a worker at the QFC down the street from there yesterday. They told me that people try and claim there are csmeras in those Loos, so they don’t use them.
