Pay Forward Project created to help restaurants and bars get through COVID-19 closures

A Burien marketing agency has set up a website to help people easily buy gift cards to restaurants, bars, and breweries during the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s called the Pay Forward Project, created by the marketing team at Big Man and the Little Guy.

“Obviously many of these places are struggling financially and the sale of gift cards is one way that people can support them and help them to survive,” Richard Hurring from Big Man and the Little Guy tells My Ballard. “Gift card purchase acts as a kind of ‘micro-loan’ for your favorite spot.”

There are currently 200 businesses on the website, with more being added. You can search by neighborhood, types of business (restaurant, taproom, bar), and price range. Hurring says his company doesn’t take a cut of the gift cards sold; they just wanted to create an easy way for customers to help their favorite spots during the pandemic.

“We’re trying to build momentum around a Pay Forward Pledge where you commit to buying one gift card a week,” Hurring says.

  1. Why are restaurants and bars more special? Having zero unemployment insurance, no business and cash poor. Only thing I can afford is beans and rice.

    1. Well, I’ll go out on a limb and say that most of us who aren’t misanthropes tend to find that our favorite places to gather with friends and family are bars/restaurants. We’ve befriended staff at them over the years and realize the important role they play in our lives. So, it follows we’d go the extra mile to help that extra special sector out. I realize it may come as a shock to you, but that is my best shot.

    2. Many people can only afford beans and rice, and others can’t even afford that right now. So what makes you special?

If you have been a good member of your community and practiced pay-it-forward in the past, others will likely pay-it-forward to you now…that’s how a good community works. If all you’ve done is whine, complain and insult other people in your community, it’s likely you will not get, or even deserve any community support now.

    3. Hi Paintking, I’m Richard, one of the people behind the Pay Forward Project. It’s not that we think restaurants and bars are special. We get that a lot of people are suffering right now. This was something we felt that we could do to try to help one section of the community. We understand it doesn’t help everyone. Stay well.

  2. Now with the pandemic, marketing has entered a new wave of popularity. You have to understand this, and you just can’t do without a competent and professional approach. I already know for myself that it is better to find the most professional team, which will do the tasks efficiently, than to throw money at advertising and just lose it. So I recommend here https://inventurex.pissedconsumer.com/review.html to study reviews about one of these companies, I think it will be useful and it will be easier to decide who to entrust such a responsible job.
