More Metro service reductions start this weekend

King County Metro bus service will be further reduced starting tomorrow, Saturday, April 18.

Both weekend and weekday services will be cut back, but Metro says the reduced service will still provide “a core network” of transit to maintain access to critical supplies, services, and worksites around the region.

Overall, Metro says they’ll be operating with about 42 percent fewer buses, 36 percent fewer transit operators, and 27 percent fewer trips than typical weekday service. Weekend trips are being reduced by 15 percent on Saturdays and four percent on Sundays.

Details about weekend changes are posted online; canceled trip details for weekday service will be revised and updated online Saturday.

“To reserve transit for those who need it most, we’re calling on riders to travel only if absolutely necessary and to wear a face covering to help limit the spread of COVID-19,” King County Metro General Manager Rob Gannon said in a statement about the changes. “Adjusting our weekend and weekday service allows us to continue to operate a reliable network of service for essential travel needs – for food, medicine, and work – while responding to decreased ridership demands and to the overall availability of Metro’s workforce. Our goal is to continue to serve the community, and we’re grateful for and commend our frontline staff.”

This is the third round of reductions to Metro service; previous cutbacks happened on March 23 and April 6.

Metro’s other COVID-19 measures include free rides for all passengers, twice daily bus disinfecting, rear-door boarding, installing safety straps to reserve the front of the bus for passengers who require priority seating, and encouraging passengers to stay apart while riding.

    1. I realize you’re just posting moronic drivel, but it’s clear that you haven’t been on a bus recently. They are not moving bum hotels. That’s some false narrative that’s being pushed by useful idiots that get their opinions from Dori Monson, not unlike yourself
