GIG car share expands to parts of North Seattle

The car share company GIG is expanding their service area today, adding parts of North Seattle including Ballard, Phinney Ridge, and Green Lake.

GIG launched in Seattle five months ago, filling the car share gap after Car2Go left the city in December 2019.

The company has just increased its ‘Seattle Home Zone‘ area from 15 to 23 miles (see map below). It doesn’t include the far west side of Ballard or north of NW 85th St, but it does serve most of the neighborhood. The expansion includes 120 new Gig vehicles to be released throughout the city today (Monday, Dec. 7).

The company recently gained recognition for its community partnership program—Gig4Good—which gives driving credits to nonprofits. The nonprofits Lifelong and Open Arms Perinatal Services were given a total of 13,000 hours of drive time in June. The AutoTech Breakthrough Awards named GIG the Car Sharing Service of the Year for the community partnership program.
