Shop and dine at local businesses to support the Ballard Food Bank

A number of local businesses have committed to giving a portion of their sales on July 24 to the Ballard Food Bank.

The Ballard Food Bank has been raising money to finish the completion of their new Ballard location at 1400 Leary Way. To help them reach their fundraising goals, the Ballard Alliance/Visit Ballard has launched Ballard Gives Back – A Benefit for the Ballard Food Bank.

Ballard Gives Back is a program created by local businesses that happens every Black Friday. As part of the event, merchants commit to giving a portion of their proceeds from their Black Friday sales to a selected charity. This version of Ballard Gives Back will funnel money directly to the food bank, which is still fundraising to reach their goal.

The Ballard Food Bank has been fundraising for over a year, and despite considerable support from individuals, foundations, businesses, and local government, they’re still bridging the funding gap to finish construction on their new building. Their current lease ends in October, and they need additional funding to get their new building ready for move-in.

The new food bank will be twice the size of the current location, and will include a garden, a large waiting area, and cafe for visitors. The warehouse will be 3,000 square feet and will have additional sorting areas and storage space, making programs such as the Weekend Food For Kids and Home Delivery easier for staff and volunteers to operate.

The Community Resource Hub will also expand with the new space, giving visitors more access to resources such as rent assistance, medical check-ups, case management, and VA services. The larger facility will allow the food bank to expand their services into more communities; Licton Springs to Bitter Lake and up to 145th St will be included in the new Ballard Food Bank service area.

The Ballard Gives Back event will take place Saturday, July 24. The following businesses are participating in the program:
