Ballard’s local bagel shop, Mt. Bagel, is closing its bakery on May 20.
Owner Roan Hartzog tells My Ballard that he and his family have been considering a move to Bend, Oregon for a while, “and things just came together so we are going for it.” Hartzog plans to open a small shop in Bend once they land.
Mt. Bagel opened in 2020 in the StudioWorks building at 1417 NW 54th St after running a successful mobile bagel bakery around the city. The shop operated on a delivery and pick-up basis only.
“There’s no question that it’s tough to say goodbye to such a kind and supportive customer base,” Hertzog shared on social media.
“I’ve had so much fun building this bakery and I have so much gratitude for every one of you who has bought and enjoyed our bagels over the last few years. There’s no way we’d be what we are today without you.”
