A new coworking space has opened in the Ballard Brewery District just above Great Notion Brewing at 14th Ave NW and NW 51st St.
Co-owners Chris and Audrey Hoyt opened The Pioneer Collective‘s third location in Ballard earlier this month. Chris tells My Ballard that they launched the coworking space business to “offer great places to work and meet, whether as a supplement to an individual’s home office, or a replacement for a downtown headquarters for a larger team.”
The Hoyts launched the coworking business in Pioneer Square where they operated for seven years, but had to move in 2021 to make way for the Railspur Hotel Project.
“We were sad to say goodbye to Pioneer Square. It was our home for seven years and was our most financially successful space, but the sting of that loss was dulled by this exciting opportunity in Ballard,” Audrey said in a statement about the move. “Our customers have been asking us to open in North Seattle since 2015. It’s taken years to find the right opportunity, but we couldn’t be happier about where we landed.”
The company has both monthly memberships and hourly rates alongside meeting room rentals. They also do event space rentals and mail processing services, which Chris says helps them diversify their income.
“By diversifying our services, rather than trying to maximize every square inch of a space with tiny private offices, we realize a number of benefits,” Chris said in a statement.
“For one, we’re more financially sustainable as we can adjust each lever as needed to meet demand. Secondly, we have a broader customer portfolio. We’re able to work with individual entrepreneurs, SMBs, non-profits, and large enterprises. Often, a customer will contract us for one service and ultimately end up using many of them.”
The Ballard space will have a few extra features than your typical coworking space: It will have a podcast space, showers, and bike storage. Monthly membership for a desk in the coworking space costs $525 at the Ballard location.
The Pioneer Collective is open now at 5101 14th Ave NW. Their other locations are in Belltown and Tacoma.
