Green Lake inner loop detoured for community boathouse construction

Detours start today on the inner loop of Green Lake near the boathouse in preparation for the demolition of the current building.

The new boathouse will be under construction for about a year, Seattle Parks and Recreation says, with an expected opening in fall 2023. The adjacent parking lot behind the Aqua Theater will be closed during construction to serve as a staging area. (Detours are marked on the map below.)

The improved 10,800-square-foot boathouse will allow for more programming and instructional space, along with being fully accessible. The new facility will also make it possible for Seattle’s first public adaptive rowing program to launch and for the expansion of the paracanoeing program.

Along with creating more access, the new building will allow for more general small craft programs thanks to more efficient boat storage and new instructional space. The new facility will have restrooms, lockers, areas for off-water instruction, and a community meeting space.
