Hotel Albatross staff launch crowdfunding campaign to cover job losses

Staff from the recently shuttered Hotel Albatross have launched a fundraiser to help cover their expenses while they find new jobs.

Hotel Albatross closed on Dec. 31 after eight years in Ballard. According to the GoFundMe fundraiser set up by staff, they’d be working hard to “re-restore Hotel Albatross into its final iteration, and unfortunately will not have an opportunity to see it reach its fullest potential. With the business closing with such short notice, the staff is collectively asking for our community’s help one last time.”

A team of five employees will benefit equally from the proceeds, staff member Anthony Fierros wrote in the campaign. He says January is typically a hard time for most bars and restaurants as business slows down. Many are reluctant to hire new employees until sales improve.

The fundraiser has a goal of $15,000. As of Jan. 11, they’ve raised $8,830 from 101 donors.

“We are asking for your help to raise funds to allow us to transition into new jobs as we enter the new year,” Fierras writes.

The five employees who will benefit from the fundraiser include the author of the campaign and barista/bartender Fierras, lead bartender Will, chef Jake, and bartenders/barbacks Landrie and Tristan.
