The City has announced the locations for the 31 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Seattle, one of which is in Ballard.
The Ballard EV charging station is being planned for the 1700 block of NW 57th St. In a blog about the charging stations, Seattle City Light said they used criteria including requests from residents, infrastructure availability, and property type.
Construction for the sites has already begun, and Seattle City Light expects 50% completion by the end of May, with the remainder expected to be complete by the end of the summer.
Each charging site was designed specifically for its location; 12 of the stations will be installed on wood poles, six on new steel poles, and 13 on stand-alone pedestals (photo above).
The Ballard location will include two Level 2 EV chargers with J-1772 ports that can provide up to 9.6kW. Level 2 chargers, according to the City, can provide 30 miles of range per hour of charge.
The cost to charge will be $0.21 per kWh, and payments will be accepted via the Shell Recharge app or RFID card.
Seattle City Light created an interactive map with all 31 charging stations. The Ballard location should be open by either the second or third quarter of 2023.
