Target to close Ballard store due to theft

The Ballard Target will be closing on Oct. 21 due to crime and theft.

Target released a statement saying they’ll be closing nine Target stores across four states, including two in Seattle: The Ballard store at 1448 NW Market St and the store at 4535 University Way NE.

All nine stores on the closure list across the country experience high rates of theft, according to Target. From their statement:

In this case, we cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance. We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.

Other stores on the closure list are in Portland, San Francisco, and New York City.

The Ballard Target opened in November 2019.
