Suspected car thieves ram police vehicles to escape arrest in Ballard

Seattle police recently identified and arrested a suspect in multiple stolen vehicle cases.

Seattle Police say officers arrested a couple after they were found in a stolen vehicle in Ballard in September.

On Sept. 11, a security guard flagged down an officer at a business in the 1400 block of NW Market St after finding two subjects passed out in a white SUV with no plates. SPD says the officer immediately recognized the suspects from a series of incidents involving eluding officers in several stolen vehicles.

Officers coordinated a plan to prevent the driver from escape, blocking it in on all sides. When officers woke the suspects, the driver rammed police vehicles to attempt escape. Police forced entry to the vehicle and took the man and woman into custody without further incident.

Police say they found a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.

Officers arrested the driver, a 26-year-old suspect, for investigation of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault, and eluding a police vehicle. The 21-year-old female was arrested for investigation of taking a motor vehicle without permission. Both were booked into King County Jail.
