The Loyal Heights Community Center playfield has become quite lumpy.
Seattle Parks and Recreation says the lumps are due to frost heaving, which is caused by groundwater freezing. Spokesperson Rachel Schulkin says the freezing temperatures have caused similar lumps to fields throughout the city.
Schulkin says the fields are closed for the time being.
Hays, a member of the My Ballard Facebook Group, posted these photos in the group of Loyal Heights CC playfield.
No word yet from Seattle Parks about how they will address the frost heaves, but we’ll update you when we know more.
