Construction has wrapped up on the new playground at the Ballard Commons park.
To celebrate the opening, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is holding a ribbon cutting event on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with performances and vendors.
Community members and the Ballard Alliance led the project, paid for through grant funding from the Seattle Office of Economic Development. Seattle Parks and Recreation managed the construction, along with input and guidance from Councilmembers Dan Strauss and Sara Nelson.
The project has been in the works for years: Called The Cove, the playground has nautical-themed play equipment, safety surfacing, seat walls, new trees, and utility updates.
Ballard Alliance says the goal of the play area project was to provide a “new opportunity for year-round, active play for young children and their families in Ballard”.
