The transition from cupcakes to donuts at 2052 NW Market St is complete: Dough Joy has just opened its Ballard brick-and-mortar in the former Cupcake Royale location.
Cupcake Royale closed their NW Market St shop back in March after a 20-year run—one month later, Dough Joy announced its plan to take over the space.
The whimsical donut shop started off as a vegan donut food truck back in 2021. Owners Christopher Ballard and Sean Willis—Seattle-based vegan entrepreneurs—also created the Outbound Herbivore brand and self-published magazine of the same name. They parked the Dough Joy food truck in Ballard when they first opened, right across from the now-shuttered Cycle Dogs on 17th Ave NW.
Ballard and Willis have two other Dough Joy locations—one in Capitol Hill and another in West Seattle. The food truck (aka the Doughmobile) is now only used for events.
Dough Joy has yet to set their regular hours for the Ballard location, but you can check their Instagram for updated details.
