Ballard Bridge closure canceled this weekend—Leary Way Bridge will close instead

The previously scheduled Ballard Bridge closure for May 30 – June 2 has been canceled, so the bridge will remain open this weekend.

The Ballard Bridge closures—happening over several weekends this spring/early summer—are part of the Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) 15th Ave W/NW & Ballard Bridge Paving & Safety Project.

SDOT says that instead of closing the Ballard Bridge this weekend, they’ll close the Leary Way Bridge for seismic retrofit work.

Here’s how to navigate the closure (from SDOT):

People driving south on 15th Ave NW will need to travel down to Leary Way NW, then use the on-ramp to access the Ballard Bridge. People traveling north from Interbay via the Ballard Bridge will need to exit down to Leary Way NW using the off-ramp to continue into Ballard.

We encourage you to take the Aurora Bridge as a detour route to avoid increased traffic.

Local access will remain open between NW Market St and NW 51st.

The next full bridge closure is scheduled for June 6-9, but the SDOT says they may adjust the closure plans depending on the weather—we’ll keep you updated.
