Little Beast, a traditional English pub from the Beast & Cleaver team, opens on Ballard Ave

The newest venture from the local butchery Beast & Cleaver has opened its doors: Little Beast is now open at 5107 Ballard Ave NW.

Beast & Cleaver owner Kevin Smith announced his plans earlier this year for Little Beast, which has taken over the former Ballard Pizza Co. location (it moved just up the street last year after combining its Frelard and Ballard locations).

Smith said his vision for the restaurant is “classic English pub food done our way, using the best local WA ingredients, a selection of beers, cocktails, and of course whole animal butchery at the heart of everything,” he wrote in a social media post about Little Beast.

Expect classic London pub fare like Scotch eggs, meat pies, and puddings, along with plans for hands-on cooking and butchery classes in the space.

“I’m going all in on my English heritage,” Smith says on his website. “This is the kind of food you’d find across the UK, but done the way it’s meant to be.”

Little Beast is now open on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5:30 p.m. They’re almost fully booked for July, but they will have about 20 seats available for walk-ins every couple of hours.
