Overnight water shutdown scheduled for 24th Ave NW on August 3

The city plans to shut off the water at 24th Ave NW south of Shilshole Ave NW on Sunday night.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) crews will be conducting overnight water main connection work starting August 3 at approximately 9 p.m. The work is expected to continue into the early morning hours of Monday, August 4.

Businesses and residents directly affected by the water shutoff will receive door hanger notifications in advance of the shutdown.

The project is part of the ongoing Ship Canal Water Quality Project, led by SPU in partnership with the King County Wastewater Treatment Division, aiming to drastically reduce sewage and stormwater pollution entering local waterways.

As part of the project, SPU is building a 2.7‑mile tunnel from Ballard to Wallingford that will capture and temporarily store over 29 million gallons of sewage and stormwater during heavy rainfall. The stored flows will then get pumped to the West Point Treatment Plant for proper handling.

All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
