Seattle Nordic Film Festival to highlight Danish cinema this September

The Seattle Nordic Film Festival will return September 5–7, 2025, with screenings at the Majestic Bay Theatres in Ballard. An opening night celebration will be held on Thursday, September 4, at the National Nordic Museum.

This year’s festival focuses on Denmark’s film history and contemporary cinema. Guest curator Thomas Christensen from the Danish Film Institute selected the lineup, which includes both well-known films and lesser-seen works. Christensen noted that location played a central role in his selections, with films set in landscapes ranging from Greenland to urban Denmark.

The festival schedule includes:

  • Thursday, September 4: Opening night event at the Museum, featuring trailers from the festival films and a conversation with Christensen and University of Washington professor Amanda Doxtater.
  • Friday, September 5: Another Round (2020), 7–9 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 6: The Wedding of Palo (1934), Shorts Program (1972, 2004), Flee (2021), Babette’s Feast (1987), and A Royal Affair (2012).
  • Sunday, September 7: The Word (1955), The Man Who Thought Life (1969), and Melancholia (2011). A film scheduled for 11:30 a.m. will be announced later.

Admission is $100 for a festival pass or $16 for a single ticket for non-members. Museum members can purchase passes for $90 or single tickets for $13. The opening night celebration is free and open to the public.
