Thai Siam to resume tradition of free Christmas dinners

Thai Siam, the beloved Thai restaurant that closed temporarily earlier this year, is resuming its tradition of giving away free Christmas dinners to those in need.

“At Thai Siam, we believe Christmas is truly a time for kindness, connection, and sharing. This year, we are opening our doors to offer a warm, FREE Christmas Dinner to anyone in the community who could use a festive meal and company,” Thai Siam shared in an announcement about the event.

It’s been a tricky year for Thai Siam. Owner Vhanthip “Nancy” Bhokayasupatt closed the restaurant temporarily in April when the building went up for sale. Bhokayasupatt then reopened in May and bought the property after exercising her Right of First Refusal, matching a pending sale and closing on the purchase in late July.

According to the Seattle DJC, Bhokayasupatt purchased the building for $1.4 million, though it was originally listed for about $2.4 million. It had been on the market for more than a year. Thai Siam patron Amy Poisson launched a GoFundMe campaign, which raised $25,300 to help Bhokayasupatt secure the sale.

The Christmas dinner giveaway is a longstanding tradition for Thai Siam. In years past, they’ve given out hundreds of free dinners on Christmas.

Thai Siam will distribute the free turkey dinners at the restaurant (8305 15th Ave NW) on Dec. 25 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are looking forward to celebrating together and making this a meaningful day for everyone. Please share this post with anyone who might benefit,” they wrote.
