The 8th annual Sámi Film Festival is set to return in early February with screenings both in person and online.
The festival, organized by the National Nordic Museum and held at the Majestic Bay Theatres, celebrates the storytelling traditions of the Sámi, an Indigenous people from northern parts of Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Kola Peninsula of Russia.
This year’s program has been curated by director, writer, artist, and composer Elle Márjá Eira, whose work spans television, opera, film, and music. Eira’s directorial debut, Stolen (Stöld), reached the top 10 list in 71 countries after its 2024 Netflix premiere.
In-person screenings are scheduled for February 6 and 7 at Majestic Bay, where you can buy opening-night tickets for Friday and full-festival passes, or single tickets for Saturday showings. Virtual screenings will be available nationwide from February 6-13.
The festival originated as a partnership between the National Nordic Museum and Pacific Sámi Searvi in 2018.
