Large lock at Ballard Locks closed until Friday

The Ballard Lock’s large lock chamber has been emptied while crews carry out repairs on the plumbing system.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews dewatered the large lock on Monday so they can conduct follow-on repairs of to pump plant pipe infrastructure. The large lock will remain closed until 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.

The small lock chamber will remain open to vessels up to 110 feet long, 26 feet wide, and 14 feet deep. Pedestrian traffic will be able to cross via the east end gates miter.

The next closure will happen in one month, when crews empty the small lock chamber for maintenance on March 2-13.
