U-Haul trucks damaged in fire linked to gas siphoning attempt

Six trucks were damaged in an early morning fire on Monday at U-Haul in Ballard (1119 NW Leary Way), according to Seattle police.

Officers were dispatched shortly after 3 a.m. to assist the Seattle Fire Department with traffic control following reports of a large multi-vehicle fire. By the time police arrived, firefighters had already extinguished the blaze and cleared the scene.

Police said they spoke with a fire marshal from the Seattle Fire Department, who reported receiving an anonymous tip that someone was siphoning gasoline from the trucks when the fire started.

Investigators said six trucks appeared to have been damaged by the fire. A funnel was also found at the scene, though it is unclear whether it is connected to the incident.

No injuries were reported.

The Seattle Police Department’s Arson Bomb Squad is leading the investigation.
