Take 5 Urban Market (6757 8th Ave NW) is marking one year since it reopened following the 2024 natural gas explosion that forced the Ballard business to temporarily close.
As previously reported by My Ballard, the explosion caused significant damage to the store, leading to a months-long closure before it reopened in April 2025. No one was injured in the incident.

To mark the anniversary of the reopening, the market is inviting the community to stop by on April 9 and 10. The event also commemorates the date of the explosion.

“In memory of that fateful day (we continue to be so grateful no one was hurt!), we invite everyone to join us April 9 and 10 for our delicious BLAST special (get it?),” the owners shared in their announcement.
The BLAST sandwich includes bacon, lettuce, avocado, grilled salmon, and tomato on toasted Como bread from Grand Central Bakery. The store’s full menu will also be available.
In a message to customers, the business said it remains grateful that no one was hurt in the explosion and is welcoming neighbors to stop in during the anniversary.
