The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has released a new construction update for the Route 40 Transit-Plus Multimodal Corridor project, with upcoming work planned in both Ballard and Fremont.
In Ballard, SDOT said paving work at NW Leary Way and 15th Ave NW has recently been completed, including repaving the roadway after crews removed the top layers of asphalt. Crews also completed sidewalk and driveway replacement on the north side of NW Leary Way east of the intersection, replaced sidewalk at the southwest corner, and replaced curb ramps at the southeast corner.
Looking ahead, SDOT said overnight restriping work could begin as soon as mid-May on NW Leary Way between 15th Ave NW and 17th Ave NW. Temporary no parking restrictions are planned from May 18 through June 5 between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weeknights.
Additional Ballard locations that may be affected include NW Leary Way between NW Market Street and 17th Ave NW, and NW Market Street between 24th Ave NW and Leary Ave NW. SDOT said some smaller sections of overnight roadway striping will also continue in areas where most striping work was completed earlier in the project.
The agency said crews still need to finish sidewalk replacement at the southeast corner of NW Leary Way and 15th Ave NW.
In Fremont, SDOT said crews will complete a final round of improvements over the next several weeks, including sidewalk upgrades, bus stop improvements, a new protected bike lane, red bus-only lanes, street striping, sign installation, pole removal, and traffic signal activation.
The Fremont work area includes Fremont Avenue N between N 34th Street and N 36th Street, N 36th Street between 2nd Ave NW and Evanston Ave N, Fremont Place N, portions of N 35th Street and N 34th Street, and the area south of the Fremont Bridge near Westlake Ave N, Dexter Ave N, and 4th Ave N.
SDOT said parking restrictions in Fremont will also be in place from May 18 through June 5 between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays while crews complete the work.
