According to the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), crews have recently poured the final section of concrete sidewalk at the upgraded westbound bus stop and poured additional sidewalk sections at the eastbound bus stop along NW Leary Way.

Looking ahead, crews plan to remove and replace concrete roadway panels near the intersection and at the nearby bridge on- and off-ramps. SDOT says the work will take place on weekends (from Friday evening through Monday morning) to reduce impacts during weekday travel. Lane reductions are expected on the ramps and along NW Leary Way at 15th Ave NW. The work could begin as early as March 20.

Additional work planned in the area includes completing remaining sidewalk replacement at the eastbound bus stop and replacing sidewalks and curb ramps at several corners of the intersection. Crews will also remove and replace sidewalk and driveways on the north side of NW Leary Way east of the intersection and install new traffic signals.

The work is part of the broader Route 40 project, which aims to upgrade transit stops, sidewalks, and corridor infrastructure along the route that connects Ballard, Fremont, and other neighborhoods.

Further south in Fremont, crews have begun preparing several streets for pavement restoration following trenching and curb replacement work. Over the coming weeks, SDOT says crews will install new pavement in several locations, including along N 36th St, Fremont Pl N, and the intersection of Fremont Ave N and N 35th St.

Travelers in the Fremont area may notice temporary lane shifts, lane reductions, parking restrictions, construction equipment, and typical construction noise while work is underway.

Crews are also continuing sidewalk and bus stop construction along N 36th St near 1st Ave NW. During construction, the eastbound bus stop on N 36th St between 1st Ave NW and Palatine Ave N remains closed, and transit riders are advised to use nearby alternative stops.

Construction in the Fremont area is expected to continue into April, according to SDOT.
