Here’s your weekly events roundup for July 20-26 in Ballard.
This week brings book clubs, trivia, art workshops, neighborhood games, Irish dancing, live music, and a coffee-filled day at the Bakke Museum.
Monday, July 20
- Left Brain, Right Brain with Illumination Learning Studio, July 20-24, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Learning about science is fun, but so is painting, dancing, and making music. This weeklong camp for children ages 5 to 11 combines an interest in science with a love of the arts.
- Reading the Rainbow Book Club, Swoon City, 6:30 – 8 p.m.
- Queer joy is the focus of this monthly book club, which reads stories centering LGBTQ+ lives and love. Selections span romance subgenres including contemporary, paranormal and historical fiction.
- Historical Hellions Book Club, Swoon City, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
- Whether you started reading historical romance after watching “Bridgerton” or have loved the genre for years, this book club offers a place to discuss the latest selection with fellow readers.
Tuesday, July 21
- Ballard Rotary Meeting with Washington State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti, Leif Erikson Lodge, 12 – 1 p.m.
- Ballard Rotary will host Washington State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti for a program about his work as the state’s chief financial officer. The meeting costs $20 to attend.
- Floral Art: Make a Floral Crown, Swoon City, 6:30 – 8 p.m.
- Learn the basics of constructing a flower crown using floral wire and fresh summer blooms. Participants will leave with their own floral creation.
Wednesday, July 22
- Irish Dance Lessons with Seattle Irish Dance Company, Conor Byrne Pub, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
- Learn céilí dances, also known as Irish social dances, or simple solo steps during this free beginner-friendly lesson. No previous dance experience is required.
- Swoon City Sportsball Book Club, Swoon City, 7 – 8:30 p.m.
- This book club is for readers who love sports romances and want to discuss their latest swoony read with fellow fans.
- Book Trivia at The Ink Drinker, 8 – 9:30 p.m.
- Test your literary knowledge during book trivia at The Ink Drinker. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, and there is no entry fee.
Thursday, July 23
- Karaoke at Hattie’s Hat, 9:30 – 11 p.m.
- Hattie’s Hat hosts its weekly karaoke night, making for a fun late-night option if readers are looking for something casual.
Friday, July 24
- Ballard FC Western Conference Final Watch Party, Stoup Brewing, 12 p.m.
- Ballard FC is playing Ventura County FC in the USL League Two Western Conference Final in Flint, Michigan. Join fellow Ballard FC fans at Stoup Brewing in Ballard for the official watch party.
Saturday, July 25
- Day at the Museum with Garden Club Cafe, Bakke Coffee Museum, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Garden Club Cafe and Bread Truck Records are taking over the Bakke Coffee Museum for a morning of coffee, community, music and vendors. The free event will also feature a vinyl DJ set by Alec Luna.
- Art Class: Botanical Monoprinting on the Gelli Plate, Swoon City, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Use leaves, grasses and other natural materials to create one-of-a-kind botanical prints with a gelli plate. The process offers an accessible introduction to printmaking without a traditional printing press.
- Greenwood Games, Greenwood Avenue between North 65th and North 80th streets, 1 – 6 p.m.
- Greenwood Avenue will become a neighborhood-wide game board during this free, all-ages event. Participants can pick up a playbook, visit participating businesses, collect clues, solve puzzles and try tabletop games created in Washington. Completed playbooks can also be entered to win prizes.
Sunday, July 26
- Ballard Farmers Market, Ballard Avenue, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (recurring)
- Open since 2000, the Ballard Farmers Market is Seattle’s first year-round neighborhood farmers market selling produce exclusively from Washington state farmers. The market operates along the historic stretch of Ballard Avenue Northwest between Vernon Place and 22nd Avenue Northwest.
- Intro to Machine Knitting, Seattle Knitting Lab, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Learn about the equipment, terminology, tools and techniques needed to begin creating projects with a knitting machine.
- Tsimshian Stories and Weaving: Arts in Ballard Commons, Ballard Commons Park, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Drop in for an afternoon of Tsimshian storytelling and fiber arts with ’Tseen Culture. Participants can explore weaving projects, hear stories and learn about Indigenous cultural traditions.
- Watercolor Bookmarks, Swoon City, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
- Create hand-painted watercolor bookmarks during this bookish art workshop. Participants will experiment with watercolor techniques and leave with bookmarks to use themselves or give as gifts.
